- Damiris Dantas was a free-agent signing by the Indiana Fever. But visa issues and an MCL injury kept her away from the team. She was activated on June 25 (and the team waived rookie Celeste Taylor) and says she's now 100% ready to contribute however asked.
After practice on Wednesday, before the team flies to Seattle to begin a three-game road trip, Dantas and head coach Christie Sides talked with reporters. Sides also discussed the "business decision" of moving on from Taylor.

Wheeler, Wallace and Saxton are all worse players than Taylor. Taylor was your best perimeter defender. Time to celebrate the Minnesota Lynx for winning the commisioners cup! Congratulations to Alana Smith for a great defensive performance. She was waived by this great organization in 2022.

Why is Wallace still on the team?! She makes me look promising to be a pro basketball player and I don't play!! hahaha.
This "coach" has no idea on how to coach or effectively run this team. You can tell by her responses.
I can't believe Coach Christie Sides put Celeste Taylor on waivers. No, wait, yes I can. Coach Sides seems like the type of Coach who would rather LOSE GAMES than take the chance on Celeste Taylor making her look bad by winning games with stellar defense. Celeste Taylor was two-time Conference Defense Player of the Year at Ohio State. INSANITY IS DOING THE SAME THING OVER AND OVER AND EXPECTING DIFFERENT RESULTS. Indiana Fever management I am looking at you.
They made that move just to keep Wheeler and Wallace on the team
I think Taylor wanted to go because Sides sucks. Taylor will be picked up by another team who will use her talents

I am really starting to hate Sides, I didn't like her before, but now I just can't stand her. When she has an interview I just cringe. Watching her plays during game makes me cringe. And now, just looking at her face makes me cringe. How Cringy do you need to be to be fired? UGH!
I don’t hate anyone but i literally don’t do her interviews because it make me mad all over again about the countless games that the fever should’ve won but lost due to her incompetent coaching.

I have no doubt about Dantas being a good contributor to the team. However, i feel like Taylor is not the right person to waive. The organization keeps on mentioning focusing on defense but still proceeded to cut a player with multiple dpoy awards under her belt. We'll see. 🤷🏻♀️

I definitely think they could use another big, especially one who has shown some 3 point range and isn't afraid to shoot them. Still I don't see where Taylor was making that much more than other mostly bench players. Doesn't make sense given how poor their defense really is.

Isn't it interesting that when she was asked why she let Celeste Taylor go she gave us no reason other than "it was a very hard decision, she did everything that we asked, but it was a business decision". I bet Celeste played better than a few of the current players on the roster but Sides had to keep her "gal pals" that she brought with her from Atlanta. I'm so disgusted with her for letting Taylor go. I don't want to watch her or listen to her excuses anymore and I feel so sorry for CC being part of this inept organization.

Fagbenle and Clark showed a strong connection early, so don’t be surprised if they now get rid of Fagbenle (who is an outstanding player and person).

I like DD. Good big that can run the floor and make 3s. Plus she has moves and accuracy around the rim. She and Temi will be handling and converting more Clark passes.
Celeste shouldn't have been waived, OK, but Damiris is a really good asset.
Not sure how you can say that when we haven't seen what she can do. I was surprised, but we also aren't seeing what she does in practice, etc. TBD.

Another player who was at Atlanta with Sides? Guess Sides needs that support. Wheeler, Mitchell, Dantas vs Clark, Boston, Samuelson, Hull, Temi. Btw where does this leave Temi one of Clark’s best connections I wonder.
Temi has been a fan favorite,,and for good reason, for a while now . Sides isn't sensitive to CC per se, but she is very attuned to social media, the millions of fans that follow CC. Temi, Sandoval, Wallace are fair, respect CC. They aren't getting dumped unless their games goes south, abd that's not going to happen.
BS!! We all know why she let Celeste go. It had nothing to do with her play because she was good. She was not given a fair chance.
Celeste was only drafted because Damiris was injured. They had an open spot and gave Celeste a shot. Celeste is still out there and no other team has claimed her, and I don't think she will be claimed. When you get released and its a mistake, another team will immediately pick you up. The silence tells the truth.

Taylor never got enough court time to even show us what she could or more to the point what Sides is saying she couldn't do. The defensive player of the year . And the one person with the same fast paced ball as Clark . I doubt I'll look at another game until Dunn and Clark are gone. Their blatant sabotage of Clarkd rookie year stats are obvious . The obvious throwing of the Chicago game . You lost a 15 pt lead without even giving Taylor 5min on the court. Why would a coach change her players on the floor for the last quarter of the game and then lose the game if it was not deliberate.
Maybe the reporters could put the mic - I dunno - near the interviewee, so we could actually hear one word she said?? 🤦🏼♀️🙄
Sorry, got as close as I can. It's good volume, but not perfect. That's what happens in the gym. A year ago, nobody was watching Fever coverage - so this is a significant upgrade. Thanks for watching.

I think the biggest weakness lies in the coaching. So very obvious
I'm not that familiar with her game, but from what little I saw, she looks to be more offensive minded than defensive. Nothing wrong with that, but it still makes no sense to waive what most seem to consider as your best defensive player.
I'm still of a mind to give her some time.. shes gonna get to the end of the year regardless so we might as well have her back. Of course we should still point out things that are not working I think she will figure it out.

The timing of this decision certainly helped to divert attention away from the last game. This will be the most recent Indiana Fever news instead of Sides' decision making in the loss.

Agreed that we don't know what she is or what she could become. That's the challenge with limited roster spots. NBA players typically get three years and G League time to figure it out. Tough

Hard to watch this team make bad decision after bad decision. Ppl really are watching for Clark, like it or not. No shes got another big to feed while Mitchell takes all the shots and Wheeler is the dribble queen and Wallace the brick thrower. I detest Cheryl Reeve but last night the Lynx played great against the Liberty. It was fun bball to watch, its painful to watch the Fever. I wish Clark had another option than to be the handmaid to this group. Btw, Lexie and Katie Lou should play more. Both team players.

I dont kniw if sides has the power to dump players, or its like she said it was done by administration at Fevers. So until i know who was the one who made the actually decision to dump Taylor, I'm not dumping on sides.
I think it's a inside issue that we'll never know the true reasons. Whatever, i think it's a awful thing dumping a player known for her skills and not even letting her prove her talent on the court. Then firing her. It just smells real bad to us fans. I hooe Taylor gets to another team. I have this feeling she's a very good professional player.

If Celeste was doing so well, Lin Dunn wouldn't have allowed her to be waived. She was a great defender in COLLEGE as was Nika Muhl. Neither are playing regularly so their defending skills haven't yet translated to the WNBA. Caitlin Clark is having a hard enough time with the adjustment.
You have to make shots - it’s the main reason Grace Berger doesn’t play and Nika can’t get minutes. With CC and AB doubled a lot that corner and wing 3 is going to be open. Great defender isn’t going to fly if you’re clanking jump shots or reluctant to shoot at all.

I don't believe that. I think the WNBA, for whatever reason, seems to like to sit defensive players that have some game to. I look at Dijonai Carrington at proof. That women should have been getting more playing time.

My guess is Taylor wanted to go. She probably didnt get along with the coaching staff. It's difficult for talented and skilled ballers to perform under inept coaching. It's beginning to wear on Clark as well.
At the end of the season, Mitchell should be traded for Chennedy Carter.
Wheeler and Wallace should be traded for anyone. Sides needs to be let go or demoted to asst coaching and a new coach should be brought in. 1:52
I'll root for Kelsey Mitchell with the Indiana Fever or the Chicago Sky or wherever she plays. She is a valuable asset.

Why would you want to trade Mitchell for Carter? Carter is a good player, but I don’t like her attitude, and I’m not just saying that because of the blatantly unnecessary hip check she dealt Clark. She just has a nastiness about her that I don’t think would mesh with this Fever team. Also, Mitchell is great. She’s small, but mighty, and she can score.
@@lauraharold5200 Mitchell is a ball hog and goes for the shot even when she doesn't have a shot. Sides let's her get away with it. Yes, Chennedy has issues with her temper but I believe she is better overall than Mitchell

Kelsey who plays 3 minutes less a game than CC is leading the Fever in scoring by a fraction of a percentage over CC who is the teams point guard and primary ball handler.
KM is not a ball hog and she is supposed to shoot the ball. She is a shooting guard.
KM is shooting 42.9% overall and 39.0% from behind the 3 point arc.
CC is shooting 39.9% overall and 35.2% from behind the 3 point arc.
Both of them are doing fine working together, growing together, building chemistry and benefiting the team overall in their respective roles.
Leave KM alone.
Chennedy Carter is a terrific all around player who averages 14.3 points per game on 55.3% shooting overall and 28.6% from behind the 3 point arc. I love her energy and tenacity.
Chennedy Carter, Kelsey Mitchell, and Catlin Clark are tremendous players and fun to watch. Each of them is getting better and playing winning basketball. Quit hating on any of them because you have your favorites. Leave those women alone.
It seems Hull and Smith will be sitting on the bench when Temi comes back... I think Sides believes Hull has no skill and she doesn't like Smith and wouldn't play either if she didn't feel she had to..
Well best case scenario I hope that's the case. Worse case they waive Fagbenle instead.

I thought it was a disappointing answer, but it's also a decision made by the front office,(Lin Dunn) and not the coach

Tough choice to cut Celeste when you constantly bitch about defense....stupid choice is more like it. Saxton has played a total of 13 minutes in 6 games she has played in has a total of 3 points, 1 rebound and 1 turnover and you kept her why? Wallace is no star on defense and neither is Wheeler so why did you cut Taylor? Defensive player of the year back to back in TWO different conferences.....
Sides is in bed with certain players. And there just milking a system for there own benefit
